I Got a Job!!!

I finally landed a job after feeling I would never get one. It is temporary, lasting from March 26 to Oct 1, with the chance, if I do well, of it becoming permanent. This shows that it is not hopeless. If I can get a job, virtually anyone can. This means no more staying up until 2 am. I have developed that bad habit, which meant I always slept till 10:30 or 11:30 each morning. I will continue to blog although I doubt I will be able to put as much energy into it as I have in the past couple of months. I need to switch gears and get into customer service mode. I have been pretty introspective lately, and now I need to think of how best to serve, because I want this job to work out well! I will still be seeking other opportunities to make money, and find outlets for my creativity. I feel I have a lot to offer, and not having the major distraction of unemployment will help me focus on how to move things forward. Instead I will have to deal with the distraction of employment. It is difficult to stay creative while working. There is a tendency to just lay back and relax, become a vegetable, when you are off work. I will try my best to avoid that.

Of course, I cannot judge solely by my own circumstance, but it does appear that the economy is slowly recovering. We need to find new ways to put people to work. There are millions of very creative people like myself who are not making use of their talents. There needs to be more ways for creative people to find ways of making a living at what they truly love. I will continue to explore those possibilities. Poverty is a crime! Poverty saps the energy and potential to make a difference in the people it afflicts. We need another war on poverty. It is definitely in the interest of business to eliminate poverty, because then they have far more customers! You want us to buy your products? Then create jobs for us, so we can!!!! It is very easy to stop being concerned about unemployment after you are employed. I am still very concerned about it. This unemployment is weighing us down, keeping the economy from taking off again. I think private enterprise could go a lot further towards creating jobs. The government can only do so much. Ultimately, it is simply people helping people one on one that makes a difference. Discover a way this unemployed person could contribute to your business, and the unemployed need to find ways they can contribute. You can’t just sit around waiting for something to happen, although I have plenty of occasions of not having a clue about what to do. So I can definitely sympathize.

But this is a time when we all need to be active, creative, and putting ourselves out there. The era of passivity is over. We are in an interactive age, in which we get to create the kind of world we want. I am enthusiastic about that. Of course, landing a job makes me optimistic about a lot of things. I suspect it is much too early to put my cranky pants away just yet.

Quantum foam and the collective unconscious

Our universe isn’t just more complicated than we imagine, it is more complicated than we can imagine. Somebody said this, I don’t recall who. I think it may have been Arthur C. Clarke. But it’s true. We are living through a particularly volatile time. Events could move in a multiplicity of ways. However, I suspect there are ways of navigating through the various possible scenarios. Physicists have speculated about the existence of a quantum foam, consisting of alternating bubbles of existence, with non-existence between each bubble. Or something like that, I may have the analogy wrong. Other physicists have taken this idea and put it onto a macrocosmic scale, speculating about mulitverses, which also exist like bubbles. I speculate that the possible futures facing us, are in fact those quantum bubbles. Which bubble becomes our bubble? I think that depends upon ourselves. Each individual unconsciously directs his or her life. On the macro scale all of mankind does the same. All of us are directed by the collective unconscious. The key, of course, is to bring to light, to consciousness, this unconscious material so that we can direct events consciously.

This is very important, because as I am sure you can tell, our unconscious drives on both an individual and collective level are driving us to self destruction. We need to clearly see what we are doing. These drives are reflected in doomsday scenarios in the popular culture. We need to start painting a more rosy picture, because the simple act of doing so will help to redirect future events. Every thought, but especially every action has a impact upon the quantum foam or multiverse if you will. I’m inclined to think it is the same thing viewed from different perspectives. Therefore dystopian visions can have a self fulfilling affect. We are all connected in a literal, physical way by way of quantum events. Our tendency nowadays to become more and more transparent in our dealings with each other reflects a fundamental transparency, We are each other. No thought or event is truly hidden. Within the unconscious lies a record of all which takes place even on the most personal level. We carry with each of us, our own Wikileaks. The trick is how to access such information.

Ray Kurzweil has hit upon some very important ideas when he writes of the SIngularity. This is the point in which total transparency is achieved and it is clear that we are bubbles within one quantum foam. We are not separate entities. I can see this yearning to be each other in the obsession with sexuality, and the desire to strip away the social veneer, and become more genuine with each other. At the same time there is tremendous resistance to the singularity. People and cultures feel threatened by it. The merging of selves cannot allow for rigid ego structures which stubbornly maintain the illusion of a single self, totally private and inaccessible. They will fight to preserve their individuality. For them the singularity is much like the Borg, the fictional alien hive-mind in the Star Trek Next Gen series and movie. Each of us behaving as one mind, robotic in our behavior, I think this is a misconception.

More and more I discover that my creativity, my emotions and thoughts are not mine alone. They are shared by millions, in fact, billions of other biological units. I am one node in a vast network stretching beyond this planet and galaxy and having a home that is totally outside of the time-space continuum. Sounds a lot like our ideas of God, in fact our consciousness mirrors the only consciousness. This is an illusion however, in fact we are that only consciousness. Operationally we behave as though we are separate units, reinforced by having separate vehicles with specific points of view unique to that vehicle. Our physical reality is, in fact, virtual. The great challenge is to engage with what lies beyond this artificial construciton. Deep within us we know. We created this artificial construction, and inevitably we know how it began and how it will end. We chose to make this knowledge unconscious, we chose to be as we are. At least, this is how I see it, from this fragile mortal frame, speculating with my feeble brain interfacing with a magnificent consciousness which is myself.

So much pain and so much opportunity

This is a quick post about how my heart goes out to all the people I have encountered by way of this blog. So much pain. It overwhelms me. Actually this realization hit me first when I checked out Margaret Cho’s blog, at margaretcho.com. Her post regarding her reactions to Valentine’s Day made me sad, and caused me to reflect on my own childhood and adult pain. Her blog inspired my own, and I strongly recommend it. She is so much more than a comedian. Anyhow, as much as I try to keep things light, even bringing in Peanuts (Peanuts isn’t necessarily all that light), I still head for the deep waters. I can’t anesthetize myself against all the pain I read about,  all across the internet. I haven’t yet developed stigmata, but it is early yet. I can relate to the pain, the anger, the insanity, the hopelessness, the humor, all of it. I contain all of you, whatever you may believe or feel. This is not a choice I make. It is simply a fact. We are each other.

I wanted to express just how overwhelmed I am by how many people are just like me. They have the same desires, fears, and everyone wants to know they are not alone. And yet, ironically, reading other people’s blogs just leaves me feeling even more alone. Why is that? Because I am sitting here physically alone typing away, and there you are physically removed from me. We are one and we are very separate at the same time. Perhaps there is a way for everyone to be together in a way that has never been tried before?

So what am I getting at? and no I have not been smoking pot. My thing lately has been trying to get past my mind and into my soul, or whatever that is that lies past the mind, To speak directly from myself and not my ego. I mean I can bullshit as well as anyone, and do, but lately I have wanted to try to reach out in a different way. In a way that enables us to truly empower each other, perhaps to inhabit each other, even be one another. Sounds pretty sexual, doesn’t it? Ok, So maybe I am just experiencing a kind of spiritual horniness.  Now there is a church I can happily attend! But seriously, there is an opportunity here. I am not sure what that opportunity is. I have difficulty finding the words to express precisely what I wish to say. There is so much need for love and so much pain. This is such a volatile time, full of opportunity, yes, but also danger. Life is cheap, as egos are threatened, and paradigms collapse.

I am here for you, dear reader, for whatever that means. I have the sense that something is happening throughout the world that is larger than us, and it propels us forward into something we cannot fathom as yet. This fills me with ecstasy at times, and at times it fills me with dread.

Slow Light Changes Everything

I had to post something regarding an article in today’s SF Chronicle. “Tiny ‘hole in time’ makes a brief event disappear.

Scientists were able to control the speed of light in such a way that for a tiny fraction of a fraction of a second true invisibility could be achieved. Not only rendering an object invisible, but an entire event. If this experiment could be expanded to enable a scientist to slow light even more, and thus extended the time in which we are left in the dark, conceivably they might be able to conceal several minutes of activity. What this could mean boggles the mind. Perhaps activities could be blocked from our view indefinitely if light could be slowed to such an extent that it is essentially motionless, moving at an almost imperceptible rate. If this could be achieved you could hide a whole universe of activity. Perhaps this is why our so-called dark matter or dark energy is dark. The light from this matter or energy or whatever the hell it is (we can’t see it anyway so it could be anything!), is simply moving at a very very very very slow rate, maybe reaching us in about a billion oh no make it a trillion years, or since we don’t know enough to say anything intelligent about it, it could even appear in, say 2012? What would appear, you say. Well, all I can say is “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.” Always good advice.

This could explain a lot. Or not. But when I read it, I had this weird but wonderful feeling that this little smidgen of information might lead to a breakdown of all of the physics that we have come to know and love, and we will become privy to a multiverse unlike anything we can even imagine. Not even Steve Jobs could have anticipated this. Not only will you be able to hear me now, but you will hear and see and feel all of the me’s that have ever existed, or could exist. All of it, right there, where darkness once stood. One of the first laws of physics (as I understand it in my little pee-wee brain) is that All is Conserved, Nothing is Lost. There can be no true extinction. It is all there, hidden by the slow movement of light. I have no idea if I am making any sense. I need to go to bed!
